Frank Butler: A Charming 1892 Note about Him, Written to his Mother. Buffalo Bill's Wild West played an extended stand at Glasgow, Scotland, from November 16, 1891, through February 27, 1892. This extraordinary letter from Roman Catholic priest Father David Murie to Frank's mother is testimony to the good works that Annie and Frank devoted themselves to abroad as well as at home. "I have very lately become acquainted with you son who is at present in this city with Colonel Cody's renowned 'show.' He is a particular favorite of mine & the reason is because he is a good honest man, but above all I find him & his wife doing many acts of charity among the poor. His wife I know visits one of my poor people two & three times every week & always bringing something to cheer up the poor old woman in her poverty and afflictions for which I know God will reward her for her charity." Fr. Murie calls Frank "a son any mother would be proud of." Wonderful and illuminating content. Note is 4.125" x 5.5" and in excellent condition. Envelope torn when opened, as shown. This lot will be accompanied by a family letter of provenance.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
