    Description

Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst British Suffragette Archive. An interesting archive of autograph letters and suffrage publications from the eminent English political activist and her daughter. Includes (1) an autograph letter signed "E. Pankhurst", three pages, on The National Women's Social & Political Union letterhead, 5" x 8", Newton Abbot, January 9, 1908, to L. Alexander Gray. Ms Pankhurst writes to Gray about finding ways of getting names on an unspecified petition. Interestingly, this letter was written ten days before Pankhurst and an associate were attacked and injured by a group of male Liberal supporters who thought Pankhurst's WSPU party had cost them a recent election. With the usual fold creases and slightly toned, else near fine. (2) an autograph letter signed "E. Pankhurst", two pages, on The National Women's Social & Political Union letterhead, 5" x 8", Rochester, November 14, 1909, to Mrs. [Eliza] Osborne. Ms Pankhurst accepts an offer to speak, and kindly asks if she can bring her travelling companion along with her. Fine condition. (3) an autograph letter signed "Christabel Pankhurst", one page, on The National Women's Social & Political Union letterhead, 5" x 8", London, September 29, 1910. The younger Pankhurst pens a cover letter which accompanied an article submitted to The Times newspaper. One vertical fold crease, else fine. (4) Copy number four of The Anti-Suffrage Review, London, March, 1909, eight pages, 8.5" x 11", moderately foxed at the margins, else very good. (5) an eight page pamphlet, 5.5" x 8.5", written by Annie G. Porritt, titled "The Causes of the Revolt of the Women in England", foxed at the edges, else very good. From the Judith Kaplan Women's History Collection.
