An Eleanor Roosevelt collection of items obtained from the estate of Major Robert W. Robinson, a World War II pilot who lost a leg during the War, and later visited and resided at The White House for a period of time at the invitation of ER. Major Robinson kept in contact with ER through the years. This special ER collection is composed of the following items. First, a signed letter, two pages, on The White House Washington stationery dated from Hyde Park, New York, June 29, 1944 in which ER pledges to do whatever she can to assist Major Robinson, as well as inviting him to visit, even for a long period of time. Second, there are two Christmas Cards from ER. Third, an interesting 2 x 3" calling card inscribed in script lettering: "Mrs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt/ Hyde Park, New York," which is then crossed out by ER and she writes in her own hand: "With affectionate birthday greetings." Fourth, there is a 2 x 3" black and white photograph of Major Robinson's wife and child on the south lawn of The White House. A very interesting collection relating to a disabled World War II veteran whom ER befriended, and kept up close connections through the years.
