    Description

Dave Scott Signed Large Apollo 15 Lunar Surface Photo in a Framed Display with Embroidered Mission Insignia Patch. A 19.5" x 15.5" B&W photo, produced from a NASA archive negative, handsomely double-matted and framed with a 4" patch to an overall 26.5" x 26.5". He has boldly signed in silver felt tip: "Hadley Rille, 1971/ Dave Scott/ Apollo 15 CDR" with great contrast. The Lunar Roving Vehicle is shown in the image; Apollo 15 was the first mission to utilize this piece of equipment. A dramatic image, excellent for display. Excellent condition.

Included with the lot is a Certificate of Authenticity from Novaspace signed by Kim Poor, it reads: "Dave Scott and the lunar rover near Hadley Rille, the winding mile-deep canyon near the landing site of Apollo 15. Though it appears to ground controllers he is precariously near the edge, the rim of the rille was actually a gentle slope, Hadley Rille is thought to be a collapsed lava tube, which once channeled molten lava during the early history of the moon. Scott was commander of Apollo 15, the first extended lunar mission. Apollo 15 carried rechargeable backpacks, and the first lunar rover. Moonwalkers Scott and James Irwin climbed to the highest elevation reached, during the Apollo program. This photo was produced from a NASA archive negative. The signature on this item is certified, authentic, and guaranteed to be signed in person."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
