Clarence Darrow Autograph Letter Signed. One page on Willard Hotel stationery, 6" x 9.25", Washington, D.C., March 11, no year stated, to Dr. Irving O. Thomas. It reads: "I'm sorry that my signature was somewhat blotted. I am not trying to correct it knowing that you can do it better than I if you want it done. I appreciate your observation of the Bisset story and the beautiful tribute you have made. I presume every one is pleased when what he tries to do is recognized and this you have shown in a beautiful way. I need scarcely add that the story of Bisset is literally true although it is very unusual in this world of chance. If I am ever in Wilkes-Barry again I shall try to see you." Very slight mailing fold, even toning. Very good condition.

The "Bisset story" almost certainly refers to the 1910 Illinois case "State vs. Bisset" in which Darrow's legal genius overturned the murder conviction of George Bisset. Darrow had written about the case in his autobiography. Bisset had been found guilty of killing a police officer. After examining the case, Darrow determined that the case had not been tried properly. He was able to secure a new trial, at which he presented a case based on self-defense. The police officers had not been in uniform, nor had they attempted to arrest Bisset. The men had entered into a quarrel, at which all three began shooting. Bisset had taken two or three bullets, and one of the policemen had died from gunshots. Darrow had taken the case pro bono after being approached by Bisset's elderly mother.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
