    Description

Charlie Duke Signed Large Apollo 16 Lunar Surface Panoramic Color Photo with Handwritten Mission Summary. A beautiful 20" x 16" silk-finish photo on Kodak Endura paper of the LM Orion, John Young, the Lunar Roving Vehicle, and the planted American flag at the Apollo 16 lunar landing site. The actual image size is 20" x 9.75". Duke has signed in the wide bottom margin: "Apollo 16 spent more than 20 hours exploring the/ moon. This involved emplacement and activation of/ scientific equipment and experiments, the collection/ of nearly 213 pounds of rock and soil samples, and/ the evaluation and use of Rover-2 (our Lunar/ car) over the roughest and blockiest surface/ yet encountered on the moon./ Charlie Duke/ Apollo 16 LMP". Quite an impressive series of photos taken by Duke with a detailed mission summary handwritten by him. Excellent.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
