Bonnie Parker, Her Rare Signature in pencil eight times on the verso of a 8.75" x 11" page bearing an original typescript of her poem: "The Street Girl". The poem, consisting of eight stanzas and reads in small part: "You don't want to marry me, Though just to hear you ask me is sweet; If you did you'd regret it tomorrow For I'm only a girl of the street.. Time was when I'd gladly have listened, Before I was tainted with shame, But it wouldn't be fair to you, Honey; Men laugh when they mention my name..." On the verso Parker has written her name eight times in pencil variously "Bonnie Parker", "Bonnie Gene" and "Bonnie Gene Parker" Despite her reputation as a wild woman, her childhood in West Dallas, Texas was quite promising. Parker (1910-34) was an honor roll student in high school and excelled in creative writing. She won prizes for her work and was so-well spoken she was invited to give introductory speeches for local politicians. This all changed when she met Clyde Barrow in 1929, though she continued her writing to the end. As half of the infamous Bonnie and Clyde duo, Bonnie Parker assisted in a nationwide crime spree that lasted from 1932 until their deaths. Already married to an imprisoned murderer, Bonnie met Clyde in West Dallas, Texas in January 1930. The pair committed at least 13 known (attributed) murders, numerous kidnappings, and several burglaries and robberies. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies engaged in one of the largest manhunts the United States had seen up to that time, capturing national attention. With most of their accomplices already dead or captured, Bonnie and Clyde were ambushed and killed instantly by a posse of lawmen led by Texas Ranger Frank Hamer near Sailes, LA on May 23, 1934. This remarkable rarity comes from the estate of Blanche Caldwell Barrow (1911-88), the last surviving member of the Barrow Gang.Folds, marginal tears, light toning, else very good condition.
