Apollo 12 Crew-Signed Insurance Cover from the Personal Collection of Mission Support Crew Member Paul Weitz. The three bold signatures, "Charles Conrad Jr.", "Dick Gordon", and "Alan L. Bean", all in black felt-tip, are neatly placed on a space event cover (approximately 6.5" x 3.5" in size) featuring the "First Man on the Moon" U.S. airmail stamp (Scott #C76). It was cancelled on the day of launch, November 14, 1969, at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The cachet features the Apollo 12 mission insignia with "Yankee Clipper" (the Command Module) and "Intrepid" (the Lunar Module) printed below, along with a Navy Wing insignia. All three members of the crew were Navy pilots, thus the naval theme of the insignia and the ship callsigns.

Insurance covers were a tradition that started with Apollo 11 and continued through Apollo 16. The astronauts would all sign a certain quantity of these covers to be left on Earth as a contingency against their failing to return safely from the moon. In the case of a tragedy, the covers would be sold with the proceeds benefiting their families, not unlike an insurance policy. This particular cover is quite special due to its provenance. Written on the verso of the cover is: "As a member of the Apollo 12 Support Crew, I was presented this insurance cover by the Prime Crew. Paul Weitz". Also included with the lot is a signed, handwritten Letter of Authenticity from Weitz on his personal letterhead attesting to the background and stating that, "...It is from my personal collection of artifacts and has been in my possession since I received it." Excellent condition.
