    Description

Star note signed by Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins

Apollo 11 Crew-Signed One Dollar Bill, a "Star" Note. A Series 1963A Federal Reserve Note, serial number F27836458* in excellent condition. It bears the signatures in red felt tip of the crew for mankind's first moonlanding mission: "Neil Armstrong" (at left), "Buzz Aldrin" (over Washington's portrait), and "Michael Collins" (at right). A "star" note is one that is printed to replace a note that was damaged in the manufacturing process. A star is printed as either the prefix or suffix of the original serial number to denote that it is a replacement. Already a desirable collectible for the space collector, this would lend additional appeal to the currency collector. Our consignor notes that two small pieces of tape were professionally removed by the Art Conservation Center in Chicago. Great for display with the bold red signatures.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
