    Description

Apollo 11 Crew-Signed Insurance Cover Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin, Numbered "BA58" on verso. A philatelic cover, 6.5" x 3.625", with the "Apollo 8" 6¢ stamp (Scott #1371) affixed, postmarked Houston, Texas, July 20, 1969, the day Apollo 11 landed on the Moon. The color cachet features the text: "NASA Manned Spacecraft Center Stamp Club/ Official Commemorative Cover/ First Manned Lunar Exploration". Signed "Neil Armstrong," "Michael Collins", and "Buzz Aldrin". Apollo 11 was the first flight in which insurance covers were utilized. They were produced for the crew to sign together in pre-flight quarantine, shortly before launch to the moon, and then leave behind with their families as a form of insurance that could be sold should they fail to return. Some of the covers were postmarked at the Cape on July 16, 1969, the day of launch, with the remainder postmarked in Houston on July 20, 1969, the day of the landing. Excellent condition.

Included with this lot is a certification note signed "Buzz Aldrin". It states: "This Apollo 11 envelope is one of the 'insurance covers' signed by the Apollo 11 crew prior to our lunar landing flight of July 1969. It is from my private collection and has an ID number of BA58 printed on the back side."

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
