Annie Oakley: Autograph Letter Signed, to her Brother-in-law William Butler. This letter, written a year before Frank and Annie's steep decline into illness, is important both for its charm and for the revelation that the couple were doing what they loved, and still doing it well. It also shows that Annie was always more concerned about the well-being of others than for herself. It is worth quoting in full:

"We have been dreadfuly uneasy about dear Emma & I felt so queer about her last night about 11 PM and later. I wrote you but rec. no answer. We are all on the westward trip, and would be very easy for us if it was not for the dear ones that we must leave behind. Frank is at the little GC [gun club] but will be back soon. He keeps pretty well but he can't be idle it makes him cross. But he is always happy when he can keep busy. The Hotel is loosing money every day. It has been to wet & cold for the Mts. this season. Don't know what we will do or where we will go for the winter but think not so far from here. It costs to much to travel. I got 98 out of 100 the other day, Not so bad for an old Lady that we all thought was on the shelf Ha! If I could just get rid of this old brace that I am wearing. But that is better than crutches. Deed it is. And I can be even a little happy at times when I think of all the blessings that God has given me. For this I am truly thankful. May God bless and keep you both, and guide you in all things. With just heaps of love to all 4. Affect-, Annie". Excellent condition. 5.5" x 7".
