Annie Oakley was an accomplished horsewoman, comfortable both sidesaddle and, as in this photograph (undated, but probably taken in about 1915), astride. It is inscribed on the back in Annie's hand: "Miss Ester Tufts and Annie Oakley. Ready for a spin." Miss Tufts was the daughter of the owner of the Pinehurst resort, Leonard Tufts. Excellent condition. 6.75" x 4.875". This lot will be accompanied by a family letter of provenance.
