    Description

Andrew Carnegie Typed Letter Signed with Cabinet Card Photo. The letter: one page, 7.75" x 10", Skibo Castle, July 22, 1899, to David A. Munro. Carnegie is sending Munro a manuscript (not present) by a Mr. Macpherson for the North American Review, in part: "This article would boom the Review in Britain; certainly if you use it you must pay Macpherson handsomely as he is a poor man, not a multi-millionaire who can bestow his invaluable contributions upon for nothing." Carnegie was certainly a multi-millionaire himself, making his fortune as the founder of the Carnegie Steel Company (later U.S. Steel) and then giving much of it away in his later life to fund libraries, schools, and universities. About fine condition, lightly mounted to a collector's folder, staple holes at top left.

Also included in this lot is an incredibly fine cabinet card size photo of Carnegie from approximately the same time period this letter was written- a handsome formal portrait by Lafayette of London, Dublin, Glasgow, etc. Matted and framed together, these two items would form a magnificent display. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
