Albert Einstein Autograph Letter Signed "A. Einstein." One page, 8" x 10.5" (sight), in German, on his personal letterhead, Berlin, April 20, 1930. Writing to his mother-in-law, "Frau Kayser," the famed physicist is sending her wishes on her birthday. He writes, in part: "Growing old truly is an art that not everybody can master gracefully, but being a good mother-in-law, being one every day of many a year, that is an achievement, of which you have every right to be proud. I am wishing you with all my heart to keep reasonably healthy, combined with a well balanced measure of wisdom and sacrifice, without which those of advance years unfortunately cannot manage. As to our physicians...we can savor one great satisfaction, they too eventually must taste the bitter fruit just as we all are destined to."

Below, Einstein's daughter, Margot, has also written a short note: "Dearest Granny! For your birthday I am giving you a tender kiss and wish you complete health and happiness. Keep well and may you receive many nice presents, that is always the most pleasant part about having another birthday." Smoothed folds; separation along the lower half of the vertical fold and at the edges of the main horizontal fold. Else fine. Matted and framed with a picture of Einstein to an overall size of 34.5" x 19.25".

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
