    Description

Details of the Apollo 12 Mission Handwritten by the Pilots.

Alan Bean and Richard Gordon Signed Apollo 12 Lunar Orbital Map. A large "Apollo Translunar/Transearth Trajectory Plotting Chart (ATT)" for the "Apollo Mission 12" from NASA. It is printed in color, dated October 31, 1969, and is 24" x 20" in size. It displays a polar view of the lunar mission profile for November 14, 1969, the date of take-off. Mission Lunar Module Pilot Alan Bean has written at upper right, in full: "November 20 1969 Pete Conrad and I launched into a lunar orbit about 15 miles below Dick Gordon in the CSM. As we were tracking Dick Pete asked me if I wanted to fly the LM. I said yes but Mission Control on Earth might not like it. Pete said, 'Don't worry, we're on the backside of the moon and they will never know.['] This was an example of what a great leader and friend Pete Conrad was. Alan Bean Apollo XII LMP".

In the center of the chart, Command Module Pilot Richard Gordon has written, in full: "Apollo XII was launched during a storm on November 14, 1969 from Pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center. Thirty two seconds after launch the spacecraft was struck by lightning and the electrical system was disturbed. Al Bean restored the fuel cells and the flight continued to the Moon!! Richard Gordon Apollo XII CMP". An amazing period memento of man's second lunar landing mission. Very fine condition with some edge wear.
