"Prince of Preachers" Charles Spurgeon Autograph Letter Signed "C. H. Spurgeon". One page, 5" x 7", Westwood, March 5, 1886. In part: "...I have some weeks ago made an engagement to preach at Aldershot on May 18. I must therefore be in the camp instead of being among the friends of peace; but as I go in the name of the Prince of Peace I hope I shall be doing your society's work. Yours Truly..." archival mounts present at corners of letter , else a fine example for framing.
Spurgeon was perhaps the most influential preacher in England in the second half of the 1800's He formed what is now called the first "Mega Church" preaching to congregations of as many as 10,000 at a time in an age before amplification, mass transportation, or marketing. A convert at the age of 14, Spurgeon claimed that God reveled his will to Spurgeon as he took shelter from a snow storm in a small church. Spurgeon was a Baptist and a Calvinist in the tradition of the Puritans, and is especially highly regarded amongst Presbyterian and Congregationalists.
