    From "the Mercury Astronauts".

"Mercury Seven" NASA Astronaut Photo Signed by All with Letter of Transmittal from Wally Schirra. A 10" x 8" matte finish B&W photo of our nation's first astronauts seated at a table examining a Mercury Atlas model. There is a great inscription in the upper right by Schirra: "To Clint ~/ Best wishes and warm/ regards -/ the Mercury Astronauts", beneath which he has drawn the Project Mercury symbol. They have each signed in the lower margin using early and more formal versions of their autographs (before nicknames, etc.): "Alan B Shepard Jr" (1923-1998), "Walter M. Schirra Jr" (1923-2007), "John H. Glenn, Jr.", "Virgil I. Grissom" (1926-1967), "M. Scott Carpenter", "Donald K. Slayton" (1924-1993), and "Leroy G. Cooper, Jr" (1927-2004). Very good condition with some creasing through areas of the photo only.

Included with this photo is an autograph letter signed "Wally" from Schirra, a letter of transmittal to the original recipient of this photo. One page, 8" x 10", on Project Mercury letterhead, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, May 25, 1961, to Clint. Dated just twenty days after Alan Shepard's historic flight, Schirra writes: "Here is the picture that I promised./ I enjoyed being with you all again and/ can only see happier days ahead./ MAC vehicles are really getting newspace/ these days./ I hope to use one of those jugs/ soon and give another 'boost' to the/ good news." It's not at all common to see letters such as this accompanying these early photos. Letter in very fine condition with minor creasing and light toning.
