On "Congress of Industrial Organization" letterhead, Lewis expresses his gratitude for the positive message of his recent public address. [and:] Sam Gompers Typed Letter Signed. One page, 7.25" x 10.25", Washington D.C., September 2, 1915. On "American Federation of Labor" letterhead, Gompers writes: "There are some things even more abhorrent than war: That is, to be robbed of the birthright of freedom, justice, safety and character." [and:] John L. Lewis Typed Letter Signed. One page, 8" x 10", Washington D.C., February 18, 1953. On "United Mine Workers of America" letterhead, Lewis declining a request from a student to write a statement for her history collection. [and:] William Green Typed Letter Signed. One page, 8.5" x 11", Washington D.C., March 15, 1927. On "American Federation of Labor" letterhead, Green responds to a letter asking for more information about a possible conflict between the "George Washington National Bi-Centennial Commemoration Committee" and the "Federal Commission created by Act of Congress which Senator Fess represents."
