    Description

[George A. Custer]: Scout "Parson Bob" Archive. Seven pages of letters written by Philip R. "Parson Bob" Landon (1846-1933), a scout for Custer who avoided death at the Battle of Little Bighorn since he was recovering from wounds inflicted by the Indians. He also assayed the role of preacher in Deadwood, D.T. He accumulated a large collection of Western relics and spent his twilight years giving talks on the old days and his acquaintance with Calamity Jane, Buffalo Bill, "Diamond Dick" Tanner and others. The archive includes a 1931 ALS presenting some moccasins to the local Boy Scout troop, the second page of a two-page letter referencing "Doc" Middleton, a 1926 3-page letter (with envelope) telling of a visit with "Diamond Dick", a 1924 3-page manuscript poem (Native American subject matter) titled "Snowballs Lament" signed "Parson Bob", a 1933 ALS regarding the sale of some fossils and some newspaper clippings. From the Estate of Robert (Bobby) Palazzo, Westlake Village, Ca.
