Neil Armstrong and Jimmy Doolittle Honor another Great Aviator, Charles Lindbergh.

[Charles A. Lindbergh] 1977 "Spirit of St. Louis" Dinner: Armstrong and Doolittle Program Signed, Armstrong Photo Signed, and Medal. This lot consists of three items relating to the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Lindbergh's legendary solo flight across the Atlantic in 1927. In 1976 Neil Armstrong and General James Doolittle announced the creation of the Charles A. Lindbergh Memorial Fund to support the work of young scientists, explorers, and conservationists. They held a banquet at the Waldorf Astoria on May 20, 1977, to celebrate the event with Anne Morrow Lindbergh in attendance. This lot consists of:
Dinner Program Signed "Neil Armstrong" and "J. H. Doolittle" on the front cover, which pictures a lone eagle flying above the clouds, of a 6.75" x 9.75" program and menu on cardstock. The two men are listed as co-chairmen on the back. Very fine condition with a couple of tiny indentations of the front that do not detract.
Armstrong at the Podium Photo Signed "Best Wishes-/ to Stephen B?/ Neil Armstrong/ Lindbergh Memorial Dinner/ 20 May, 1977" on a 10" x 8" B&W photo. He is waving to the crowd, likely after his speech, and Mrs. Lindbergh is standing to his right, clapping her hands. Excellent condition.
Official Commemorative Medal likely in bronze, 38mm, with a bold portrait of the famed aviator on the obverse and wording on the back about the anniversary and the Memorial Fund. Excellent condition with original cloth pouch.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
