Brigham Young signs a bill of sale as a trustee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day SaintsBrigham Young Bill of Sale Signed regarding church property in Salt Lake City. One page (blue paper), 7.5" x 12.25", "Territory of Utah / County of G[reat] S[alt] Lake," May 10, 1861, with docketing on the verso. The document is reinforced with rice paper, but a small amount of text is missing along a fold near the upper margin. Some soiling and stains exist. The document is handsomely matted and framed with a plaque and a portrait of Young. It reads in part,
"Be it known by these presents That I Brigham Young Trustee in Trust for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints of Great Salt Lake City in the County of Great Salt Lake and Territory of Utah . . . do in the sum of One Hundred Dollars paid by William Bond of the City, County and Territory aforesaid . . . sell . . . all my right of claim interest and possession of and to the aforesaid premises . . . to the said William Bond his heirs or assigns."
Young's bold signature appears next, above the notary public's statement and signature. Brigham Young (1801-1877) founded Salt Lake City and served as the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as the first governor of the Utah Territory. William Bond, the buyer of Young's property, was born in England, but after his family's conversion to Mormonism in 1850, they migrated to the Utah Territory, where they were early settlers.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
