    Description

Brigadier General George Crook Signed Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 3.8". Signed on the verso, "Yours Truly / George Crook / Brig. Gen / U.S.A." Mottling throughout does not detract from visual appeal of the image. Verso has toning and foxing at top; signature remains clean. Backmark reads: "Morse's Gallery of the Cumberland... Nashville, Tenn." George Crook (1828-90) was a graduate of West Point and during the Civil War, he commanded the 36th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He went on to serve with distinction during the Indian Wars, earning the Apache nickname "Grey Wolf".
