    Bonnie & Clyde - Papers concerning the imprisonment and pardon of Floyd G. Hamilton. Hamilton (c. 1908-84) was a member of the Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker gang was proclaimed Public Enemy #1 by J. Edgar Hoover. Captured in 1938 with fellow gang member Ted Walters in Dallas Texas, he served 20 years in state and federal prisons before being paroled in 1958. Part of his time was spent at Alcatraz where he was part of an unsuccessful 1943 escape attempt. For his work with ex-convicts and the International Prison Ministry, he received pardons from Texas Governor John Connelly and President Lyndon B. Johnson. Offered here is Hamilton's appeals file, containing 45 pages, including his pardon from Lyndon Johnson, signed by then Acting Attorney General Ramsey Clark, D.S., 1 page, 9" x 13.5", Washington, December 23, 1966 together with his pardon from the State of Texas, John Connelly, D.S. 1 page, 9" x 13.5", Austin, April 4, 1967 granting a full pardon for his state charges "for the offenses of robbery by Assault..." (Loss at bottom not affecting signature). The file also includes copies of Hamilton's appeals in which he contests his consecutive sentences, each bearing his initials "FGH" on the bottom margin of the first page of each document. A terrific archive of material related to one of the most notorious gangs in American history. In overall very good to fine condition.
