Walt Whitman Autograph Notations. One page, 8.5" x 11". Mounted on the letterhead of his friend, attorney Thomas B. Harned, is a sheet of notebook paper which has two clippings affixed, discussing the poetic value of the Bible. Scrawled over the paper are editorial notes by Whitman, including the quote "Ruskin indeed makes the central source of all great art to be praise (gratitude) to the Almighty for life and the Universe..." It's likely the influential bard scribbled these notes toward the end of his life, as the date he wrote for one of the clippings is November 27, 1884, and Harned signed a note at the bottom margin of his letterhead stating the scrap of paper was found in the room in which Whitman passed. From the Estate of Rod McKuen.

Condition: Smooth folds, with some toning. Glue has caused some degradation to the newspaper clipping. Notebook paper has chipped edges, and the ink has some blooming, though still legible.
