    Description

    Robert Louis Stevenson Letter Signed "Robert Louis Stevenson." One page, 4.25" x 6.5", Vailenia; May 11, Vailima, Samoa; May 11, 1893. A dictated letter, addressed to his friend James, enclosing eleven Samoan stamps. He writes, in part: "I trust they may be blessed to your use. Remember me affectionately to Ado and present those of the lady now writing for me, Mrs. Strong." Framed along with the eleven stamps and a photograph of Stevenson to the overall size of 17.25" x 17.75".

    Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was a Scottish novelist and traveler, best remembered for his novels Treasure Island and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. In 1890, he bought a large property in Samoa and built and estate in the village of Vailima. He passed away suddenly on December 3, 1894, likely from a cerebral hemorrhage, at the age of 44. He was buried on Mount Vaea on a spot overlooking the sea.

    Condition: Flattened folds, light toning and soiling. Boldly signed.
