    Description

Robert Frost Typed Poem Signed. One page, 8.5" x 11", circa 1935. Poem titled "Not Quite Social", submitted to the Saturday Review of Literature, where it first appeared in the March 30, 1935 issue. Offered here is the actual typescript submitted by the poet, and contains the editor's instructions for layout. The poem contains four stanzas, and speaks with the voice of the poet regarding the consequences of social transgressions. The closing stanza reads:

And anyone us free to condemn me to death -
If he leaves it to nature to carry out the sentence.
I shall will to the common stock of air my breath
And pay a death-tax of fairly polite repentance.

Frost signs his name immediately below the last line. Stamped, "Sat. Review of Lit. / 8pt. on 10 Textype" at top left. The Saturday Review of Literature was founded in 1924 by Henry Seidel Canby. Norman Cousins took over as editor in 1940. Ex. Norman Cousins Estate.

Condition: Toned, darker at edges, some paper loss along top and right vertical margin, with small tear at bottom right corner. Horizontal folds and other small amounts of creasing.
