Playwright Arthur Miller Autograph Letter Signed and Typed Letter Signed. The earlier of the two, dated August 7, 1978, is a one page autograph letter, measuring 7.25" x 10.5", on his personal letterhead, written from Nantucket, Massachusetts. Addressed to film director Fred Zinnemann (1907-1997), Miller writes regarding a new screenplay, in part: "I've just completed a screenplay which I would like you to read, and have asked the producer, Linda Yellen, to mail you a copy as soon as it is typed - within a few days. I'd appreciate hearing your reaction at your earliest convenience. I think your sensibility would be perfect for this subject and the vision of it which I've tried to set out in this text." He has signed "Arthur Miller." With the original transmittal envelope accomplished in Miller's hand.

The second letter, dated September 8, 1978, is a two page typed letter, measuring 7.25" x 10.5", also on his personal letterhead. Writing again to Zinnemann, Miller states that he has "been informed that the script was finally delivered to you by hand, or to your secretary, and I hope you will be able to get to it." He continues by saying "there is only one comment I would want to make to you about it. I realize that the subject is either too depressing or too combed over for some tastes. But I think the time has come when it could be treated cinematically in a way that would surpass the naturalistic or even totally realistic styles and touch upon its mythological side. . . . In short, the reality is now a spiritual one rather than that of a newscast or headline." Miller has signed this letter simply "Arthur."

Condition: Both letters have small holes from staples in the upper left corner and smoothed folds. Else, they are fine.
