    Oliver Wendell Holmes Signature. Small card, 3.75" x 2", Boston, January 7, 1882, gilt edges. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. (1809 - 1894) was a physician by training; however, he is best remembered for wielding a clever pen and for siring the great Supreme Court justice who carried his name. Apart from being a poet and physician, he taught at both Dartmouth Medical School and Harvard. Among his circle of friends were Ralph Waldo Emerson, James Russell Lowell, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

    Condition: Lightly toned, remnants of mounting on verso.
