    Description

Lucretia Mott Autograph Quotation Signed, with Carte de Visite and a Clipped Signature. The social reformer (abolitionist and women's rights activist) writes and signs the quotation, "Truth for authority, not authority for truth" (dated by Mott 1870). Bears only minor stains. The CDV features her sitting. The lower two edges of the mount have been clipped, but paper has been added (affixed to the verso) to square the corners. The clipped signature bears some stains and is affixed to a slightly larger backing. From the Donald P. Dow Collection.
