John Steinbeck Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 7.25" x 9.5" (sight), September 5, 1962, to a Mr. Fraser. Written in pencil on yellow-lined paper, the Pulitzer-winning literary great goes into detail on what he deems the proper way to make coffee, including his famous addition of egg to the brew. In part: "Set aside and add a couple of spoons of cold water or a part of an ice cube. This will settle the grounds. Drink as is and don't reheat. If you want the coffee really to shine mix in the dry grounds the white of one egg before they are put in the cold water. This will give a wine like clarity but has no effect on flavor." Signed "Yours, John Steinbeck." Matted in black next to a black & white photograph of Steinbeck, glasses resting on his forehead, a knowing smirk on his face. From the Estate of Rod McKuen.

Novelist John Steinbeck, winner of a Nobel and Pulitzer prize in Literature and Fiction, respectively, noted this this coffee brewing technique in his 1962 travelogue, Travels With Charley.

Condition: Smooth folds, with light creasing. Very little fading to the pencil.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
