    Description

J.D. Salinger Signature in the Return Address on an Expandable File Folder Addressed to Author and Literary Critic Eli Waldron. 12" x 9.5", postmarked Windsor, VT, 1965. Addressed entirely in Salinger's hand, his name appears in the return address: "From / Salinger / R. D. 2 / Windsor, VT. -- To / Mr. Eli Waldron / c/o Cooper / 51 East 10th Street / New York, N.Y."

The accordion sides are well extended suggesting that it contained a large ream of paper, possibly a manuscript. Waldron was an author and literary critic who published regularly in esteemed journals and magazines such as The Kenyon Review, The New Yorker, Collier's, and many more. In July 1951 he wrote a glowing review of Salinger's Catcher in the Rye; eliciting a thank you note from Salinger.

Condition: Addressed in black marker, Salinger's writing is bold. The folder itself has heavy wear, and the closing flap is not present. With tape remnants, and areas of the surface paper that have peeled off do not affect Salinger's writing in any way.
