    James Whitcomb Riley Autograph Letter Signed. Small slip, 4" x 3.5", undated. The letter reads, in full: "Dear Madame: Your request regarding the inclusion in your collection of sonnets of the lines of mine 'When She Comes Home' - is a distinctive honor, as I take it, and as I hasten thus to grant it, thank you again and again in life forever. - But first now I am home from brief vacation, else with even prompted eagerness this joyous consent of mine had reached you". Riley (1849-1916) was an American writer, poet, and best-selling author. During his lifetime, he was known as the "Hoosier Poet" and the "Children's Poet" for his dialect works and his children's poetry respectively.

    Together with John Osborne Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 6" x 8", undated, on personalized letterhead. A letter to Adrienne [Corri], a Scottish-Italian actress: "My dear Adrienne - I have enjoyed it so much. Thank you for everything. I have to do it again one day. Your performance is so good. My admiration and affection grows all the time." Osborne (1929-1994), English playwright, screenwriter and actor, was known for his excoriating prose and intense critical stance towards established social and political norms.

    Condition: Osborne letter has usual mail folds, else fine. Riley letter is toned with some soiling along bottom due to mounting remnants on verso.
