Helen Keller Photograph Signed "With affectionate greetings/Helen Keller/Darkie sends her love, too./Nov. 1929." Sepia, 8" x 10" photograph matted to 7.5" to 9.5" visible, matted to 11" x 15.5". The photograph is blind embossed "Nickolas Muray/New York." Keller has written her inscription and signature in dark pencil on the matte. Renowned portrait photographer Nickolas Murray (1892-1965) has also signed in pencil on the matte "1929 Muray." Helen Keller loved dogs all her life. When she was young, she tried finger spelling, her only way of communicating, into her dog's paws. Although she owned many dogs, Keller never used any as guides. Among those she owned during her lifetime, in addition to her Scottish terrier Darkie, pictured here, were a Boston terrier named Phiz, Belle, a Great Dane, and a Dachshund named Sunshine. Light creasing at the corners and one under the date. Fine condition.
