Helen Keller Inscribed Book Signed. Beautifully written on the front free endpaper of her book, Midstream: My Later Life, Keller writes, in pencil: "To: Captain Van Beek / with every good wish / Helen Keller / October 1930." Countersigned in ink by her constant companions Anne Sullivan Macy and Polly Thomson. Van Beek was a captain with the transatlantic shipping and passenger company United States Lines. Both Sullivan and Thomson's signature show some areas of ink smudging.

Published in 1929, Midstream was the follow-up to her 1903 autobiography, The Story of My Life. Beginning in her twenty-first year as a sophomore at Radcliffe College, Keller describes her work for the blind and her friendships with famous people.
