George Bernard Shaw Signed Typescript. "G. Bernard Shaw." Five pages, 8" x 10", tipped onto backing sheet to an overall size of 9" x 12.5", n. d. Inscribed by Shaw on the first page of "Caesar and Cleopatra," it reads in full: "This prologue has to be modified from country to country, as the English version will not fit into French history nor the French into Polish." The verso of page five also bears an inscription reading: "This is the text of the prologue originally written by Bernard Shaw for the London production, and adapted for the use of the Polish stage. It will be used in Polish for the first time in December, 1928. F. Sobieniowski." Floryan Sobieniowski was Shaw's translator. Some adhesive staining along the left edge; mild staining is evident on the first page. The inscription by Sobieniowski has bled through to the recto of page five due to the heavy amount of ink use. Else in fine condition.
