    Description

Ernest Hemingway Notes Written in His Own Hand on the Back of an Envelope. Written on the verso of two envelopes. On the back of the first he has written: "92 July 10/Ambos Mundos/$125.00," below which is written, "94 - July 12...19.00.../95 July 13/Ambos Mundos/ $100.00...96 - Ambos Mundos/ 35.00 50.00 July 19." The Hotel Ambos Mundos was Hemingway's home in Havana, Cuba from 1932 until 1939, when he moved to Key West. It was here, in room 511, that Hemingway began his famous novel "For Whom the Bell Tolls." On the back of the second envelope, Hemingway simply writes: "Hudson Strode/Hotel ParkView." Hudson Strode was an author and professor of creative writing at the University of Alabama. In 1934 he published the book "The Pageant of Cuba." It is probable that Strode was in Cuba at the time and staying at the Hotel Park View in Havana. Also includes a third envelope addressed to Hemingway at the Hotel Ambos Mundos.
