    Description

Emma Goldman Typed Letter Signed "Emma Goldman." One page, 8.5" x 11", New York, March 8, 1934, to "Mr. Green". The outspoken activist, some may say, anarchist, favors a young man with an autograph. In full:

"My contract with my publisher prevents me from an autograph to anyone except as a signature in my books. However, I hate to refuse a group of earnest young people so I hope your group is not only interested in historic events of the past but is preparing to meet the pressing problems of the future and combatting ignorance, cruelty and superstition everywhere."

Moderate toning with areas of chipping and closed tears along the edges, small areas of ink bleeding just touching the signature, and the usual fold creases, else a bold, bright signature in very good condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
