Christopher Morley Typed Letter Signed "C.M." New York: July 22, 1949. In this letter, Morley discusses Sherlock Holmes' residence. One page, 5.5" x 8.5", New York; July 22, 1949. Typed on Green Escape, Roslyn Heights letterhead and addressed to a recipient identified only as Jerry. Morley shares memories of Sherlock Holmes' famous residence during WWII and the London Blitz. It reads in part: "...I'm just cleaning up before going to England next month. I have an investment over there that even Sherlock never had: a couple of grandchildren. My oldest daughter (who was working at the U.S. Embassy during some bad times of blitz) lived just off Baker Street when 221-B and adjoining blocks were blown to rubble..."

Christopher Morley (1890-1957) was a journalist, novelist, and poet, born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He received a Rhodes scholarship and studied at the University of Oxford for three years, where he published his first volume of poems. As an admirer of the Sherlock Holmes stories, he helped found The Baker Street Irregulars, a Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts organization, in 1934. He also wrote the introduction to the standard omnibus edition of The Complete Sherlock Holmes. The letter has mail folds and a bold signature. Small pencil notation at the top right corner. Very Good.
