    Description

Charles Dickens Autograph Letter Signed. Two pages of a bifolium, 4.5" x 7"; Devonshire Terrace; March 26, 1857. A letter to Mrs. Tagart, in part: "... I have a particular liking for that house, - but I have resolved to 'rent' no more, and have just enough doubt of my own [illegible] vital, to forbear [illegible] with temptation. Therefore I adjust my dining gown like a Toga, and put the card on the pile. I am glad Mr. Tagart is going to the Fund Dinner. I observe in the newspapers that they propose selling the Ladies' Tickets. I would recommend you to write to secure such as you want... Mrs. Dickens has been very unwell, and we are down at Malvern... Charles Dickens." Mrs. Tagart was likely the wife of Edward Tagart, a Unitarian minister whose services Dickens attended.

Condition: Flattened mail folds with light staining on the right margin of the second page. Otherwise near fine.
