    Description

    Charles Dickens Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 4.5" x 7.25" (sight), circa 1839. Written from Dickens's Doughty Street address, where he lived between March 1837 and December 1839 (and the current home of the Charles Dickens Museum. Dickens writes to a Mr. Lloyd: "I am exceedingly sorry to tell you that all my ladies' tickets for the dinner have been long disposed of, and that I have been obliged to refuse very many friends as I refuse you - not from want of inclination to comply with their request... but from sheer inability." Boldly signed with Dickens' typical flourish. Matted with an engraving of Dickens to the overall size of 17.5" x 12.5".

    It was during his time at 48 Doughty Street that Dickens published Nicholas Nickleby.

    Condition: Usual mail fold, with very light soiling at top. Very fine condition.
