    Description

Arthur Conan Doyle Autograph Letter Signed, on imprinted letterhead, one page, 4.5" x 7", stamp dated June 1, 1904. In full: "My dear Robson I come to Hawick Common riding next week. I hope the free paper wont be done away with. No paid paper could ever do so much good as that. I'll see you no doubt on the 22nd Gala Yours very ly A Conan Doyle". "Common Riding" is an annually occurring celebration in the Border towns of Scotland held to commemorate and honor the the tradition of heroism of the past when local men risked their lives to protect their town and people. The Hawick event is the first of the series all generally occurring in the month of June, and celebrates the capture of an English flag in 1514. The letter is in near fine condition with a few ink transfer stains that likely occurred when the letter was folded prematurely before the ink had dried.
