    Alfred Tennyson Autograph Letter Signed "A Tennyson". One page, 4.5" x 7", Freshwater, Isle of Wight.

    "I thank you for your interesting letter & the accompanying papers. You have done & are doing a Xties & patriotic work for which your country men & country women & after generations happy to help your name. If you ever come my way I & my wife will be most happy to welcome you - only you must write a line before you come to insure our being at home & not have your journey in vain."

    Tennyson was one of the most popular English poets of his time. Most of his verse is based on classical or mythological themes. In 1850, Tennyson was made Poet Laureate of Great Britain and Ireland, and remained so during the majority of Queen Victoria's rule.

    Condition: Significant paper loss at top left corner and top right, possibly due to fire, as there are signs of singeing. Paper loss affects the salutation and name of recipient, but rest of text remains untouched.
