    Description

    [Samuel L. Clemens]. Mark Twain Signed Photograph. 7.5" x 9.25" (sight), no date; no place. A sepia toned photograph of Samuel Clemens seated at a desk while holding a pen. The photograph has been affixed to a mounting board. The board is signed at the bottom margin below the photograph, "Mark Twain." Framed to an overall size of 10.5" x 12.25". Not examined outside of the frame. A note written on the back of the frame alleges this photograph was given to a Mrs. Daniel Beard during her visit to Twain's home in Hartford, Connecticut.

    Samuel Clemens was born in Florida, Missouri; he tried several failed careers including printer and miner and eventually he settled on being an editor for the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise in Nevada. Later he began writing, and some of his early tales include: The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County and Innocents Abroad. His best-known works are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and, of course, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

    Condition: Toned and sunned with small area of loss to the upper portion of the mounting board. Frame is gently scratched with some minor areas of chipping.
