Winslow Homer Autograph Illustrated Letter Thrice Signed. Three pages (two sheets), 5" x 7.75", Scarboro Beach [Maine], August 26, 1904, to "Mssrs. Doll & Richards," managers of Homer's Boston art gallery. The American artist includes an illustration of a sketch book on page three of his letter. In his illustration, Homer entitles the sketch book "W H".

Pages one and two of the letter reads, "Gentlemen, Having sold a picture after waiting a year & a half I now propose painting another & as that subject of the Rapids upper Saguenay River is the most easy thing I can as I have many studies of the subject & even a trip up there at this time of year is not a bad thing. I will ask you to send me the three drawings lately submitted to you. Yours very truly [signed] Winslow Homer." Docketed in pencil on page one, "Augt 29/04."

Page three reads, "Please put them in that sketch book [here, Homer includes a sketch] & wrap them up on strong paper & send by American Express to Winslow Homer Scarboro Beach Maine." Docketed in a different hand on the verso, "Winslow Homer / Letter Aug. 26/04."

Around the time Winslow Homer wrote this letter, his primary gallery was Doll & Richards of Boston, established in 1866. Near the time he wrote this, he switched to Knoedler & Co. of New York City. These pages exhibit smoothed creases with pin holes in the top left corner of both sheets.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
