Poet Ezra Pound Typed Letter Signed. One Page. 8.5" x 11". St. Elizabeth's Hospital. October 24, 1957. This letter was written to Kenneth Lawrence Beaudoin, who is best known for having invented the "eye poem", a form of poetry that focused of combing words and images. Written during Pound's twelve year incarceration at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for the criminally insane. Pound discusses the fact that Yu Suwa will be translating his poetry and states: "...NO EXCLUSIVE rights to translate any of my poetry are given to anyone." He also express his feelings towards higher education on American campuses: "Hard to believe that absolute equality of stewpidity pervades EVERY col/ campus in the U.S." The letter has horizontal and vertical folds, with partial separation to the bottom fold. Toning along the edges and folds; pin holes at both left and right edges.Together with a poem titled "An Immorality" as well as a booklet Erza Pound at Seventy published in Norfolk, Connecticut by New Directions. New York office-333 Sixth Avenue. The booklet marks Erza's Pound's seventieth year and consist of a collection of statements made about Pound "together with a list of his books in print..." The poem and booklet have been stapled to a piece of cardstock.
