    Mary Cassatt Autograph Letter Signed. Two integral pages, 4.25" x 6.25", on black-bordered mourning paper, Mesnil-Beaufresne [France], n.d. [Saturday], to a Mr. Watson regarding a visit: "I have just sent you a wire, which you may not understand. I am fourty [sic] miles from Paris, and some distance from the main in, Therefore it is better to come to luncheon. . . . My car will meet you at Chaumont. Hoping to have the pleasure of meeting you and Mrs. Watson on Monday." Folds with slight bleedthrough of the ink from the verso.

    Mary Stevenson Cassatt (1844-1926) was an American Impressionist painter and printmaker who lived much of her adult life in France. Her father, Robert Simpson Cassat (later Cassatt), was a politician and founder of the Philadelphia banking house of Lloyd, Cassatt & Co. Mary's brother, Alexander J. Cassatt, was the president of the Pennsylvania Railroad from 1899 to 1906. She is remembered today for her friendship with French artist, Edgar Degas.
