MARGARET BOURKE-WHITE CHECK. A woman of intense ambition in global affairs, Margaret Bourke-White was the 'first' in a wide array of disciplines.  To precisely identify her career, we'd call her a photojournalist.  Her talent so impressed Henry Luce, that her work graced the cover of LIFE magazine's first issue in 1936.  About a year earlier (April 16, 1935), she signed this check from her studio account for $50.00, payable to J. S. McHugh, the Connecticut jeweler (?)  The punched cancellation moderately encroaches her first name in the signature, yet this is a splendid rendering of her signature (8).
