    Description

Grandma Moses Autograph Letter Signed. Two pages, 8" x 10", Eagle Bridge [New York], June 6, 1947. Here, the famed folk artist writes to her daughter-in-law, Bettie Moses, regarding the graduation of "Frances," in part: "Im [sic] proud of her, and wish her good luck through life, How proud her mother and Grandpas would be of her, I don't see how I can go and see her, owing to time right now as they are rushing me with orders, But here is a check, you pleas [sic] give her for me with best of wishes..."

She asks that Bettie tell Frances "...that one of 8000 Grandmas paintings has been hung in the Hall of Honor, not bad for one of 88 years, you see I still blow my own Horne [sic] (don't laugh)..." Regarding her book she writes: "...I had but a few days to write it in, and then Mr. [Otto] Kallir wanted it primitive to go with the paintings in the movies..." Otto Kallir was an art dealer and founder of the Galerie St. Etienne in New York which first brought Grandma Moses to the world.

Aside from a few folds and creases, the letter is in fine condition. With the original transmittal envelope also addressed in her hand.
