Frank Lloyd Wright Typed Letter Signed "Frank Lloyd Wright". One page, 8.25" x 9.5", Spring-Green, Wisconsin; February 29, 1932. A typed letter addressed to Lester Markel of the New York Times, with a few emendations in his own hand. The letter, typed on his personal letterhead, reads in full, with the edits in brackets: "My dear Markel: I have to thank you for winning a bet - a year's subscription to the times. My bet that you would not add the subscription to the fee for the article nor send a single extra copy. [O]f course he will if you will write him (as I did to her satisfaction) [was --] Mrs. Wrights bet - I'll take the money from the childrens bank and give it to you if he doesn't So by robbing the bank we get the "[T]imes." [If we do.] doesn't this 'touch' you? By the way is the article abandoned or is it coming out some time. If it is coming out [c]ould you kindly say when? I mean u would /u you?" Frank Lloyd Wright goes on to write in black ink in the lower margin, "We need the decreasing of the skyscrapers in the country. Would you please send it back?"

Journalist and editor Lester Markel (1894-1977) was the Sunday editor of The New York Times from 1923 to 1964, and published a number of articles written by Frank Lloyd Wright during his career. The year this letter was written, Wright and his wife began the Taliesin Fellowship, inviting students to come to the estate to study and work under Wright's tutelage. During the first year, twenty-three students came to stay with the couple, and the program eventually evolved into the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture.

Condition: Mild toning throughout and at edges, with flattened folds. Else very good.
