Felix Mendelsohn Autograph Letter Signed "Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy." One page of a bifolium, 5.5" x 9", Leipzig, Germany, July 15, 1843, in German. The German Romantic composer writes this letter to publisher Frederich Kistner regarding his 1832 choral work The First Walpurgis Night, which was based on the poetry of Goethe. Lightly age-toned with smoothed folds; crisp, clear ink throughout. The letter reads in part:

"The fee which I decided on for the first Walpurgis Night is 100 Frederic d'or, and I wanted to write to you rather than talk about it and I did not want to inclose the manuscript as yet because I beg you very much and earnestly to tell me frankly if such a big and therefore expensive work by me right now is not convenient for you. By no means should you feel badly about it, as long as you do not mind when I do the same. If you do not want the piece now, I will, as soon as possible, give you a smaller, shorter one - if it is convenient, the much the better."
